What is Root Canal Therapy?
The root canal therapy is prescribed if your tooth is affected through infection or it is gradually being decayed. To save the tooth, our dentists will remove the pulp (the decayed internal tissue), bacteria or any other decayed materials. The resultant gap will be then filled with medicated or dental materials. This will help you to restore your tooth and soon it will get back into full action.
How to Detect if your Tooth Requires a Root Canal Therapy?
- Hot and cold sensitivity
- A gum abscess (a pimple)
- Severe toothache
- Swelling/ tenderness
The Steps of Root Canal Therapy
You may require one or more appointments. The root canal therapy is either performed by our endodontists (root canal specialists) or dentists. As long as the tooth is numb, a sheet of rubber called the rubber dam will be placed around the tooth. It would help to keep your tooth dry (free of saliva). A bigger opening will be made atop the tooth where a series of root canal files will be placed within the opening. The series of files will be placed one at a time. If tooth decay is found, it will remove it with special dental instruments.
After cleaning the tooth thoroughly, the gap will be properly sealed or if you need more appointments, a temporary filling will be put into the gap. For additional strengthening, a dental crown will be around so to protect the filling from breaking and restore its full functionality.
